The normal flow from the dam is 12cubic meters a second. At the height of the flood 14 sluice gates were opened releasing 1900 cybic meters of water a second. That was when the Vaal Dam was 110 % full.
Gosh! we have been hearing about it on enews, but to see those photos really brings it home; and to think, we could really do with some rains down here . . .
Anonymous, Some of the people down stream are not safe, and there have been loss of lives. It does not appear to be the end of the rain either. They have to open the sluice gates or the dam with overflow and it will be worse.
