GAUTENG BIKERS COLLECT 38 000 TOYS FOR CHILDREN

JOHANNESBURG - Motorbike enthusiasts did their bit for charity as they embarked on the annual toy run this weekend.
This annual event, hosted by the Motorcycle Toy Run company, is in its 27th year and collects toys for underprivileged children and distributes the toys to various charities.
Bikers from across Gauteng left their suburban neighbourhoods to attend the event at the MTN Expo Centre at Nasrec. The entry fee to the toy run was either toys, toiletries or clothing.
Shaun Fine, Toy Run chairman, said yesterday’s Toy Run was a “massive” get together.
“We’ve had a fantastic turnout, though this year we’ve collected about 38 000 toys,” he said.
Last year’s Toy Run saw 50 000 toys being collected.
The collection and distribution of the toys and other items, will be handled by various service clubs such as Rotary, Lions, Round Table and the Ladies Circle, to name but a few.
“The purpose of the Toy Run is to collect toys for underprivileged children and make Christmas a little brighter for them and also to promote the image of the biker,” said Fine.
The Toy Run is also involved with various charities which benefit from this particular initiative.

Hi Pumpy, we also have the charity bikers around here and they ride from our state to New York City to donate their toys that they carry on the bike trip. The ride is long enough that they spend the night before they make the trip home again. Many of them will put a Teddy bear on their handlebars so that we all know why we are watching this long train of bike riders. A good cause, and glad it's continued and still ongoing.
